Fees and Referrals
Each session runs for 50–55 minutes. Fees are set to reflect the time, care, and specialised training involved in the support I offer.
Fees are intentionally set below Australian Psychological Society's recommended rate of $330 to help keep therapy as accessible as possible.
Initial Consultation – $240
Ongoing Sessions – $225
Extended EMDR Trauma Processing (2 hours) – $450
Extended sessions are available by request and need to be booked in advance.
Payments & Rebates
Fees are securely processed through Halaxy, a confidential practice management platform. Your card details will be collected before your first session and securely stored to allow for easy, same-day processing after each appointment.
You’ll only be charged if you attend your session or if our cancellation policy applies. More about Halaxy’s privacy and security can be found here.
Accessing Medicare Rebates
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $96.65 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from your GP or psychiatrist.
To use this rebate, your referral must include:
A letter addressed to Angela Chadwick or Angela Chadwick Psychology
A copy of your Mental Health Treatment Plan
Please have your GP (or yourself) email or fax the referral to admin@acpsychology.net.au before your first session.
If you’ve used some of your 10 annual sessions elsewhere, the remaining number carries over.
Why Is There a Gap Between the Rebate and the Fee?
The Medicare rebate helps reduce the cost of therapy, but it doesn’t cover the full fee. Here’s why:
Medicare rebates have stayed relatively fixed over the years, while the costs involved in providing healthcare — such as insurance, registration, and practice operations — continue to rise.
My fee structure also reflects the care and thought that goes into providing tailored, evidence-based support, including my ongoing professional development.
I’m committed to offering therapy that is grounded, thoughtful, and informed by up-to-date, specialised training — particularly in areas like perinatal mental health and EMDR therapy. Continuing to grow and learn in these areas helps me provide care that is both compassionate and effective.
If I don’t get a GP referral, what are my other options?
(i) Private Health Fund
You may be able to claim rebates through your Private Health Fund. Please check with your particular Health Fund to ascertain what/if they may provide rebates. Private psychology services (attending without a Mental Health Care Plan) do not attract a rebate under Medicare.
(ii) Private Referral
You can refer yourself without a referral.
Do you Bulk Bill?
We do not offer bulk billing. The current bulk bill rate is only 30% of the fee that is recommended by peak industry bodies such as the APS (Australian Psychological Society). If you are seeking bulk billing options, please enquire with your GP.
Do you accept any other types of referrals?
No. We do not accept third party payees (e.g., NDIS, Open Arms/DVA, Work Cover, Victims Services) and we are unable to complete medico-legal reports.
Cancellation Policy:
Why do you have a cancellation fee?
We truly understand that life happens, and we empathise with the frustration of having to pay a cancellation fee. Booking an appointment means that we’ve reserved a dedicated one-hour block of time for you, and if you cancel late, it often means that this time cannot be offered to others. This results in a financial impact on the practice, as room rent and other operational costs still need to be covered.
Can’t you just fill this spot with another person?
Often, not. Unlike brief medical appointments, it is impracticable to fill a psychology appointment that runs for 50—55 minutes at short notice. As such, we have a strict cancellation policy in place to help sustain our business operations and ensure everyone receives the care they need. Often we can only have a certain amount of people on our caseload at any one time and appointments are often booked 8-10 weeks ahead of time.
How do I know what your cancellation policy is?
You are advised of our cancellation policy when: booking your initial consultation, filling out and signing the intake forms, receiving our courtesy reminder email and reading our website
Policy Terms:
· 0-24 hours' notice: 100% of the session fee will be charged.
· 25-48 hours' notice: 50% of the session fee will be charged.
NB - Business days and business hours notice of intention to cancel/reschedule is required in order to not activation the cancellation fee.
ie. A Monday appointment needs to be cancelled by the prior Thursday, at or before the scheduled appointment time.
A Tuesday appointment needs to be cancelled by the prior Friday, at or before the scheduled appointment time.
A Wednesday appointment needs to be cancelled by Monday, at or before the scheduled appointment time.
Cultivating Well-being: Budgeting for Therapy at Angela Chadwick Psychology
At Angela Chadwick Psychology, we champion the pursuit of optimal mental health, recognising it as a cornerstone of a fulfilling life. We understand that navigating the financial aspects of therapy can sometimes be a source of apprehension. This guide offers insightful strategies to help you effectively budget for therapy, ensuring your well-being flourishes alongside your financial security.
Investing in Your Flourishing: Therapy is not merely an expense; it’s an investment in your most valuable asset – yourself. By incorporating therapy into your financial plan, you acknowledge its significance as an essential pillar of self-care, fostering long-term well-being.
Enduring Dividends: While therapy may require an initial financial commitment, the dividends it yields can be life-altering. The positive changes it cultivates can extend to all aspects of your life, enriching your relationships, enhancing your work performance, and fostering a deeper sense of personal fulfilment.
Aligning Finances with Well-being: To create budgetary space for therapy, consider conducting a comprehensive review of your current financial landscape. This might involve re-evaluating spending habits, strategically reducing discretionary expenses, or reallocating resources from underutilized areas.
Harnessing Available Resources: Many private health insurance plans offer valuable mental health coverage. Carefully reviewing your policy can unlock resources that significantly lessen your out-of-pocket costs.
Maximizing Medicare Rebates: If you qualify for Medicare rebates for therapy sessions, consider a strategic approach. Opting to claim every second session, rather than each one, can extend the duration of your financial support while ensuring continued therapeutic progress.
Open Communication - A Pillar of Care: Don’t hesitate to have an open and honest conversation with your psychologist regarding cost concerns. They may be able to offer tailored suggestions, provide access to helpful resources, or explore alternative therapy options that align with your financial circumstances. Together, you can determine a frequency and duration of sessions that is both financially sustainable and supportive of your journey towards optimal well-being.
Investing in Yourself is Priceless: By taking a proactive approach to financial management and seeking guidance when necessary, you can ensure that therapy remains an integral part of your well-being journey.
